Geoscience Enhancement for Teachers -Wisconsin
Initiative for Space Education (GET-WISE) is self-paced,
web-based, asynchronous course designed to address the professional
development needs for K-12 science teachers in the content areas
encompassed by the space sciences, including planetary science
and astronomy, earth systems science, and atmospheric science.
It consists of lectures that can be viewed on your personal computer
as streaming video along with clearly visible graphics used
in the lecture. Connections to the Wisconsin Science standards
for each topic are provided. Teachers are welcome to download
the graphics (PowerPoint) and use them in their classroom for
teaching.
Lectures,
given by experts in their field, have been previously
taped before a live audience and last from 45 minutes to more
than an hour and generally include a question/answer session
at the end of the lecture with the live audience when the lecture
was first taped. Participants are encouraged to contact
the Instructor (Dr.
Sanjay S. Limaye) for questions on the content, and to receive
the password to view the video lectures.
GET-WISE
was developed as a Distance Learning Professional Development Program sponsored
by the University of Wisconsin System PK-16 Initiative. Topics are presented
by science and education experts and linked to Wisconsin State Science standards.
It is now supported through WINNERSS,
a project funded by a Wisconsin Idea grant from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
