1. Visting with DVs..Congressional Delegation Over the last two days or so, we've had a visit here from a Congressional Delegation (it made CNN web site - don't know if it made any other news.) Of course, Congress wants to see that it is getting its dollars worth. I was impressed at how impressed the delegation was. I got to meet some of them at a reception last night, and today they stop by our office where we talked about our weather stations, my satellite work and icebergs. Oh...and in addition, the Commander of the New York 109th Air National Guard was here too...I got to visit the General and his top aides as well. Amoungest all of this, I got visit with the Commander of Operation Deep Freeze, Col. Joel Maynard. He's someone I know from other meetings I've been to. Not what you'd expect for the man incharge of ALL of the military support efforts here in Antarctica...a friendly, very approachable fellow. 2. Icebreaker woes... Bad news, the icebreaker has broken off a blade from one of its props. Yikes! Good thing we have another icebreaker coming to help. Don't know if this means the broken breaker can do any more work or not, but it will be interesting to see how it goes. We are wishing the Coasties luck! 3. My PhD work... I'm nearly set up to collect fog...none so far yet (that I know of, but I've not been ready yet). Starting tomorrow I'll be ready most likely. Should be intersting to see if I can catch some... 4.
