Hello All!

It's Thanksgiving here at McMurdo Station Antarctica! Happy Turkey Day! Here we have Thanksgiving on Saturday to give everyone a two day weekend (McMurdo has 6 day weeks - unlike the states, with typical 5 day weeks). The last two C-130s from New Zealand brought down what are termed "freshies" - fresh fruits and veggies and breads, and more for the big feast. We had about 110 turkeys and 500 pounds of potatoes! Of course, we added a bit of local flair to the even with servings of Antarctic Cod in a yummy dill sauce. It's very light, and "tasty" as my coworker John puts it. Folks here eat in 4 sittings - with volunteers helping to cook and clean up for the event (giving the galley staff a break). This year we didn't have ice sculptures, but did have shrimp! It is a fancy meal for us, who are far away from home.

Weather here has calmed down, and even slightly warmed up! It think we might even see snow melting again here.

I hope all enjoyed a Happy Thanksgiving.

Cheers,

Matthew
