Greetings everyone from the Great White South!

After several attempts to get me to McMurdo Station, I've finally made it. I got in at 11:45 pm on November 15th (local time), so I've started to get work done here on our weather computer system. There is much work to be done, and I'll keep you filled in on my progress as I can.

The flight from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand was a long one - 11 and a half hours! It could have been worse, although it was a bumpy flight for a 747 double decker airplane (the great big ones!) The flight that I finally got to take from Christchurch, New Zealand to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, was on a military cargo transport, called an LC-130, run by the US Navy Antarctic devron VXE-6 (the planes are actually owned by the National Science foundation, who run the US Antarctic Program). The flight was good, but also long, about 8 and a half fours long. You have to wear ear plugs because the engines are very very loud. Seating isn't exactly first class either, they are jump seats on the side of the plane.

Well I'm off to get some work done and have a debriefing / meeting. Talk with you all soon!

Matthew
