Hello All! I've had my peak adventure for my trip so far, as I got to go out on the iceshelf and help work on the upkeep of one of our Automatic Weather Stations (AWS), that the University of Wisconsin-Madison builds and maintains here in the Antarctic. It's about a 6 mile drive out to this main airstrip on the Ross Iceshelf where we have the weather station. The objective was to raise the station up, as it has been slowly buried with snow, so the weather instruments have to be moved up on to higher sections of the main tower. We added a 3 meter section to the tower to bring the station to a nearly 4 meter height about the ground (snow level that is). It was quite the trip, and we did get lots of photos of the work done. Now back to the lab to work on weather computer system issues at hand. Until next time! Matthew |
