Hello All, It's been a busy two days for me, getting my broken down computer running again - finally, with a bit of help from staff here on station. Weather has been fairly nice for the last 48 hours - mostly sunny skies, some cloudy periods, but not that bad. Temperatures have been below freezing at night, and nearly at or above 32 F in the day. Of course, the sun does not set here at this time of year, but is higher in the sky during the day, than at night. I sleep with a blanket over the window so it is really dark in my room, so I can sleep at 'night'. I have also crossed paths with a colleague, who just spent 4 day at Marilyn Automatic Weather Station - about 145 miles due South of McMurdo out on the open Ross Ice shelf. They got caught in the wind that we had, a few days ago. It was rough. Their tent collapsed at 3 am...and they had to dig out of it - the front door was snowed in! The tents fortunately have an "escape hatch" so they could get out, and dig it out - over 3 feet of snow nearly burried the tent. Well, that is the scoop from here. Talk to you all later, Matthew |
