Hello All,

Mother Nature bats last. The weather today has canceled flights for the day, so I won't be flying north to redeploy to Christchurch tomorrow....hopefully the planes will come down tomorrow, and I'll fly back Friday. I'll keep you posted. There was about 12 hours of snow this morning - sure makes it look nice here, but isn't so great for flying in.

I did get to help with a tour of "DVs" or distinguished visitors - from the National Science Board who over see the National Science Foundataion - the group that oversee and runs the US Antarctic Program. One of the folks visiting was Dr. Warren Washington - former president of the American Meteorological Society. Nice to meet up with a fellow meteorologist.

Finally, today I got to hear more about how they are studing the Antarctic fish for both the "anti-freeze" abilities they have (after all they live in 30 degree water - below freezing and full of ice!), and how they handle salt - the water here is very, very salty. There's some serious biochemistry involved, but neat science just the same.

Talk to all later!

Matthew
