"Each one has the right to share in the
knowledge and understanding which society provides."

-Albert Einstein

The Office of Space Science Education (OSSE) has been actively involved in the design, development and implementation of a variety of programs and activities to inspire interest and enhance learning in the subject areas of earth and space science for K-12 students.  Every effort has been made to insure that these standards-based programs incorporate an inquiry-based, hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to learning.  Our programs are designed to capture the students' imaginations, encourage them to conduct their own scientific investigations, and write about their work for such student research journals as SPARK.

OSSE personnel provide in-school support for the Red Rover (Solar System Exploration) Program, EarthKAM, GLOBE classroom implementation, and for schools who wish to implement a Telescope Observation Program.

Summer Programs and Workshops for students include: the PEOPLE Program for minority and low-income middle school students in partnership with the UW-Madison School of Education; the Summer Workshop on Atmospheric, Earth and Space Sciences led by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies; and the Milwaukee Public Schools' summer school program on solar System Exploration.

The OSSE has worked closely with many members of the scientific community on the UW-Madison campus to develop quality education programs, and when possible, has facilitated the active participation of scientific experts in Wisconsin's K-12 classrooms!  We greatly appreciate the additional support and expertise for in-school activities that have been provided in partnership with the UW-Madison Space Astronomy Laboratory, the UW Space Place, the Environmental Remote Sensing Center and the Department of Soil Science.
